Eye Tracker Troubleshooting Guide
This guide will help you resolve Eye tracker issues you might encounter. When it comes to the Eye Tracker there are a variety of issues here are some errors you might encounter. This can also depend on the eye tracker model you have.
Updating Software
Eye tracker drivers are integrated with Windows. An eye tracker may have issues connecting to EyeDetect if Windows is not up to date.
To update Windows:
- Click the Windows icon (on keyboard or tool bar)
- Type and select Windows Update Settings
- Select Check for updates
Updating Windows software if using the Tobii 4C:
We have recently discovered that updating to windows 11 might affect your Tobii 4C software. It is recommended you stay in windows 10. You shouldn’t have any problems as it should still work. But if you experience any issues you will need to submit a ticket
Update SMI eye tracker drivers (For SMI Tracker only)
- Locate the software in This PC > Local Disk (C:) > Installs > SMI iViewRED Developer.
- Launch and run the executable.
- If you can’t find the software in the installs folder, submit a support ticket.
Update Tobii eye tracker drivers (For Tobii eye tracker 4C only)
- Disconnect the eye tracker.
- Uninstall the current eye tracker software
- Click the Windows icon
- Type and select add or remove programs
- Search for Tobii Eye Tracking software
- Uninstall it by selecting the 3 dots on right hand side.

- Select the hardware: Choose Tobii (it changes to blue).
- Select Tobii device: Choose Tobii eye tracker 4C.
- Select application: Choose Tobii Eye Tracking Core
Calibrating EyeTrackers
Re-calibrate Tobii Eye Tracker
Sometimes the Tobii eye tracker needs to be recalibrated.
There are different calibration steps for the 4C and 5L.

Eye Tracker Re-calibration: Tobii 5L
Once you have the software…
- Plug in eye tracker and go to This PC>Local Disk (C:)>Program Files>Tobii 5L.
- Click on TobiiTechConfigurationApplication-2.1.6
- Select your eye tracker at top left corner
- Select Converus from dropdown under DISPLAY SETUP
- Click on CALIBRATE
- Follow the onscreen instructions asking you to position your head until the box turns green.
- Once your head is green, select CALIBRATE at the bottom.
- Follow the onscreen instructions, looking at the dots until they explode.
- Verify dots are near each other then click on USE CALIBRATION and exit.
- Open EyeDetect and sync your station.
Eye Tracker Hardware
Plug in the eye tracker and power on the station. You should see red lights at both ends, if powered on. Always Restart the station.
- V1 station (SMI RED-m): eye tracker should be connected to the USB port under the Station’s antenna. If that port is not working, change to a different USB port.
- V2 station (REDn): disconnect the cable from the tablet’s USB port and the eye tracker, then reconnect everything.
- V3 station (REDn): disconnect the cable from the NUC’s USB port and the eye tracker, then reconnect everything. Connect the cable to a different USB port.
- V3 station (Tobii 4C): change the USB port to which the eye tracker is currently connected.
- V4 station (Tobii 4C): change the USB port to which the eye tracker is currently connected.
- V4 station (Tobii 5L): change the USB port to which the eye tracker is currently connected.
