EyeDetect and EyeDetect+ Manager – Ethernet Connection

Windows 11 Settings

1. Connect the Devices

  • Use an Ethernet cable (a thick cable with clear plastic ends that click into place).
  • Plug one end into the Ethernet port on the EyeDetect Station (the computer used to take the test).
  • Plug the other end into the Ethernet port on the Manager computer (the computer that runs the test).

2. Set the IP Addresses (So the Computers Can Talk to Each Other)

You’ll do this on both computers — one at a time.

On the EyeDetect Station:

  1. Click the Windows button (bottom-left corner of the screen, looks like four white squares).
  2. Type Settings and click it when it shows up.
  3. In the Settings window, click Network & Internet.
  4. Click on Ethernet.
  5. Under IP assignment, click the Edit button.
  6. In the new window:
    • Change the setting from Automatic (DHCP) to Manual.
    • Turn IPv4 ON.
    • Fill in the boxes like this:
      • IP address: 192.168.1.1
      • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
      • Gateway: leave this blank
  7. Click Save.

On the Manager computer:

  1. Click the Windows button (bottom-left corner).
  2. Type Settings and open it.
  3. Go to Network & Internet > Ethernet.
  4. Under IP assignment, click Edit.
  5. Change to Manual, turn on IPv4, and enter:
    • IP address: 192.168.1.2
    • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    • Gateway: leave blank
  6. Click Save.

3. Turn On Sharing and Discovery

Do this on both computers.

  1. Click the Windows button (bottom-left corner).
  2. Type Settings and open it.
  3. Click Network & Internet.
  4. Scroll down and click Advanced network settings.
  5. Click Advanced sharing settings.
  6. Under both Private and Public network sections, turn ON:
    • Network discovery
    • File and printer sharing
  7. (Optional) Turn OFF password-protected sharing to make connecting easier.

4. Turn Off the Firewall (Just for Now)

  1. Do this on both computers.
    1. Click the Windows button.
    2. Type Control Panel and open it.
    3. Click Windows Defender Firewall.
    4. On the left-hand side, click Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off.
    5. Under both sections:
      • Private network settings
      • Public network settings
        Select Turn off Windows Defender Firewall
    6. Click OK.
    7. Do not turn back on until you are finished running tests.

5. Test the Connection

  1. On the Manager computer, open the EyeDetect+ Manager program.
  2. Run the Connection Test.
  3. If the test passes, the computers are now connected.

If it doesn’t work:

  • Double-check the IP address settings.
  • Make sure the Ethernet cable is fully plugged in on both ends.

6. Turn the Firewall Back On once you are finished using Eyedetect(To Stay Safe)

  1. Click the Windows button (bottom-left corner).
  2. Type Firewall and open Windows Defender Firewall.
  3. Click Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off.
  4. Choose Turn on Windows Defender Firewall for both Private and Public networks.
  5. Click OK.

Done!
The two computers are now directly connected and ready to use with EyeDetect and EyeDetect+ Manager.

 

 

Windows 10 Settings

 

1. Plug in the Ethernet Cable

  • Take the Ethernet cable (it looks like a thicker phone cord with clear ends).
  • Plug one end into the EyeDetect Station (the test computer).
  • Plug the other end into the Manager computer (the control computer).

2. Set IP Addresses Manually Using Control Panel

Do this one computer at a time.

On the EyeDetect Station:

  1. Click the Windows button (bottom-left corner of your screen, looks like four white squares).
  2. Type Control Panel and click on it.
  3. Click Network and Sharing Center.
  4. On the left side, click Change adapter settings.
  5. Right-click on the Ethernet icon (might be called “Local Area Connection” or similar).
  6. Click Properties.
  7. Double-click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
  8. Select Use the following IP address.
  9. Type in these values:
    • IP address: 192.168.1.1
    • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    • Default gateway: leave this blank
  10. Click OK, then click Close.

On the Manager Computer:

Repeat the same steps above, but enter this instead:

  • IP address: 192.168.1.2
  • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
  • Default gateway: leave blank
  • Click OK, then Close

3. Turn On Network Discovery and Sharing

Do this on both computers.

  1. Click the Windows button (bottom-left corner).
  2. Type Control Panel and open it.
  3. Click Network and Sharing Center.
  4. On the left, click Change advanced sharing settings.
  5. Under Private and Guest or Public:
    • Turn on Network discovery
    • Turn on File and printer sharing
  6. Scroll down to All Networks:
    • (Optional) Turn off password protected sharing to make access easier
  7. Click Save changes.

4. Turn Off the Firewall Temporarily (So It Doesn’t Block the Connection)

Do this step on both computers.

  1. Click the Windows button.
  2. Type Control Panel and open it.
  3. Click Windows Defender Firewall (you may see it as just “Windows Firewall”).
  4. On the left-hand side, click Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off.
  5. You will see two sections:
    • Private network settings
    • Public network settings
  6. In both sections, select Turn off Windows Defender Firewall.
  7. Click OK at the bottom.
  8. Do not turn back on until you are finished running tests.

5. Test the Connection

  1. On the Manager computer, open EyeDetect+ Manager.
  2. Run the Connection Test.
  3. If it works, the computers are connected!

If it fails, check that:

  • The cable is firmly plugged in
  • The IP addresses were entered correctly on both computers

6. Turn the Firewall Back On (Once you are finished running tests)

For your computer’s safety, turn the firewall back on after testing.

  1. Go back to Control Panel > Windows Defender Firewall.
  2. Click Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off.
  3. Select Turn on Windows Defender Firewall for both network types.
  4. Click OK.
