Correct Procedure for Running EyeDetect

Overview
This article provides step-by-step instructions on the correct way to launch EyeDetect to ensure you are using the latest version of the software. Following these instructions is crucial to avoid common issues related to synchronization and software updates.

Correct Procedure to Launch EyeDetect

  1. Locate the EyeDetect Shortcut:
    •  There should be a shortcut to the EyeDetect script on your desktop. The script file is named `EyeDetect.vbs`.

       2. Run the EyeDetect Script:

  • Double-click the `EyeDetect.vbs` file located in the `C:\DataLocker` directory. This action performs several critical tasks:

          1. Deletes the current “working” copy of EyeDetect from `C:\Converus

         2. Copies the “newest” copy of EyeDetect from `C:\DataLocker\Converus` to `C:\Converus`.
         3. Launches the EyeDetect executable from `C:\Converus`.

By following this procedure, you ensure that you are running the most up-to-date version of EyeDetect, which was downloaded the last time you synced.

Synchronization Process

When you sync EyeDetect, the following occurs:

1. Upload Completed Tests:

  • EyeDetect uploads any completed tests.

2. Download Latest Version:

  • The latest version of EyeDetect is downloaded into `C:\DataLocker\Converus`.

To utilize the newest version, you must restart EyeDetect using the `EyeDetect.vbs` script as described above. Simply syncing does not switch you to the newest version; you must relaunch the application via the script.

Incorrect Procedures and Their Consequences

1. Launching from `C:\DataLocker\Converus\EyeDetect`

Issue: Running the executable directly from `C:\DataLocker\Converus\EyeDetect`.

Consequence: During sync, completed tests upload, but the upload process errors out quietly (indicated by the connected square turning red). This is because the files being run are the same ones the download is trying to overwrite. You will never receive the latest version of EyeDetect on the station in this scenario.

2. Launching from `C:\Converus\EyeDetect`

Issue: Running the executable directly from `C:\Converus\EyeDetect`.
Consequence: During sync, completed tests upload, and the latest version of EyeDetect downloads to `C:\DataLocker\Converus`. However, the user continues to run the outdated version from `C:\Converus` because the new version is not automatically launched.

Summary

To ensure you are always running the latest version of EyeDetect:

- Always start EyeDetect by double-clicking the `EyeDetect.vbs` script in the `C:\DataLocker` directory (or using the desktop shortcut to this script).
- Avoid running the executable directly from `C:\DataLocker\Converus\EyeDetect` or `C:\Converus\EyeDetect`.

Following these steps will help maintain the functionality and reliability of the EyeDetect software on your station.
